Melanie Blacker

The BCSD Board of Trustees is thrilled to recognize Melanie Blacker!

The following accolade was submitted by Lindee Williams:

I am PROUD to recognize Melanie Blacker for her outstanding service as Carey's interim principal this year. When Melanie stepped into this role, she embraced it with dedication and her whole heart, making sure each one of us knew how committed she is to serving our school.

In her short time here, she has faced incredible challenges that would test even the most experienced administrator. When our community experienced profound loss, she met that moment with steadiness, warmth, grace, and empathy.

Through it all, Melanie's calm and thoughtful leadership style has created a sense of trust and stability that our school needed. She leads with intention, remains open in decision-making, and never loses sight of the people at the heart of this work. Her guidance has strengthened our practice as educators and reminded us to be more thoughtful in both our instruction and relationships. She communicates a clear vision while holding staff and students to high expectations.

I am tremendously grateful for the quiet, steady leadership Principal Mel has brought to Carey School.

Recognizing Excellence: Floyd Padilla

The BCSD Board of Trustees is excited to recognize Floyd Padilla!

The following accolade was submitted by Emily Thornton, Lindi Davis, Kelly Choma Cuskey, Laura Georgiades, Michele Pruess, Toni Boush, Bob Polk, and Kaly Gillette-Shippen:

The staff and students at SCHS are writing in recognition of Floyd Padilla for a board accolade.  Floyd has been with us at SCHS for the last 5 years. He selflessly supports our students and staff daily. He often goes above and beyond his job description. Most recently, he designed, planned, organized, and staged our school prom. Many students expressed that they will remember the event as a highlight of their high school years. This special evening fostered a sense of belonging and inclusion for our diverse population.

In addition to the many other ways that he supports students, Floyd takes every senior's photo outside of school hours in their chosen environment. He generously gives his time and talent in order for their families to not be financially burdened by this “rite of passage” tradition.

He is the first person to step in when another pair of hands are needed without hesitation. His laughter, fist bumps, and calming presence make it easy for him to be a cherished and vital part of our school. We are extremely lucky and honored to work with Floyd every day. Floyd is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time)!
